Things to think about when purchasing a laptop
Today's laptop market is filled with lots of different laptop computer makes and models, which makes it tough deciding which laptop to go for. With all the numerous types and price ranges it can be a headache reading through reviews and ratings. But before you plunge head first into the deep end of notebook and laptop shopping you must first consider what exactly you plan to do with your new laptop. Defining and determining one's needs before spending one's hard earned cash. To help you achieve this, consider these six simple factors.
Let's face it, size does matter when it comes to mobile computing. The size of a laptop requires deep consideration with regards to the size of the screen and portability. If you think you'll only use your laptop for very short periods of time then the mini netbooks might be your best bet, as they hardly weigh anything and are super small.
(2). Hard DriveMake note of the notebook's hard drive capacity. If the notebook is going to be a primary personal computing device then buying a laptop with a hard drive with plenty of space would be important. Something in the region of 60gb to 120gb would suffice. On the other hand if this laptop is going to be a secondary mode of use for computing then going for one with a smaller hard drive should be sufficient.
(3). MemoryHere considering the original intention for buying the laptop springs to mind. Generally the more ram a laptop notebook has the faster it will be. If you plan on using your laptop for very simple task such as web browsing and email. Then something with 256mb of ram would do you just fine. But if you intend to use the laptop for things watching videos or playing games then i would suggest anything from 1GB to 2GB or ram.
(4). CPUThe CPU of any computer is essentially the brains of the whole system. So it's obvious that the better the CPU you buy the faster your laptop will be. However as with memory it all really depends on what your intended needs are. Faster processors are good for intensive applications like games or high defintion videos. Where as slower processors just wouldn't cut it if you tried to load up a game like crysis for example.
(5). Network ConnectivityThese days with the popularity of the internet and sites such as facbook and ebay. It becomes a must have to be able to connect your laptop to the net. Check that the laptop has built in wifi capability, and that the standard it uses is atleast 802.11g which has a max throughput of 54 Mbit/s. There are faster standards available such as 802.11n which does 144 Mbit/s max.
(6). PriceThe price of laptops have fallen sharply over the years which is most likely due to the sheer competition and the high demand. There are a number of ways to save and find yourself a bargain. But it all might depend on your own personal preferences. If you're a bit fussy or too careful you'll probably prefer buying a brand spanking new laptop. But if you're not too fussy there are two other options you can go for that will drop the price even further. The first option is to buy a used laptop, obvious really. And the other not so obvious choice is to buy a refurbished laptop. Refurbished laptops are great. They're practically new laptops that are sold for a lot less. The choice is yours.
